Early Childhood Development Center

The College of Charleston offers a unique experience for young children and its own students at the N.E. Miles Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC). Since the center’s founding under President Theodore Stern in 1974, our nationally accredited program has served as the demonstration program and laboratory school for the College as part of the School of Education, Health, and Human Performance. ECDC Celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2014-2015

We held several events over the course of the 2014-2015 year to commemorate the founding of our program in 1974, including:

  • Homecoming Party for alumni, families, and friends
  • Three-part film/discussion series on the value & dimensions of play
  • Design for a research initiative to compile longitudinal data on ECDC students

Received notification of successful NAEYC re-accreditation today with nearly perfect scores! We are so happy and thankful to everyone who helped us with this as it is truly a team effort!
