Katherine Houser

Katherine Houser has a passion for student-led learning and believes in building a positive classroom environment that encourages inquiry, language, and curiosity.  Graduating from the College of Charleston with a B.S. in Elementary/Early Childhood Education, she later pursued an M.Ed in Special Education with a concentration in Teaching students with Emotional Disabilities and received her National Board Certification in Early Childhood in 2008. Katherine has held a variety of roles in the public school system over the years, which include teaching child development, kindergarten, second grade, third grade and fourth grade. She served as a mentor leader to new teachers and hosted students as clinical interns in her classrooms. After receiving her M.Ed in Administration and Supervision in 2015 from Southern Wesleyan University, she served as a lead teacher, International Baccalaureate coordinator and authorization leader, and curriculum leader for Charleston County School District. With 17 years of experience in Charleston County public schools, Katherine assumed the director’s position at the N.E. Miles Early Childhood Development Center in July 2017. Katherine is a steward for the environment and enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband Jason, son Levi, daughter June, and black lab Ox.
